Alexandria, Egypt

September, 2021

Greetings from Alexandria, Egypt - a breath of Mediterranean fresh air!

The chaos of Cairo is less evident here, but still complete mayhem to western standards! The constant breeze is refreshing. The corniche is lined with families on a walk, street vendors vigorously looking for a piastre, teenagers taking selfies, police officers pretending to work - all with the constant beeping of car horns from all directions!

Alexandria has countless Greco-Roman landmarks, old-world cafes to sip tea and play backgammon, and sandy beaches. The Citadel, a 15th-century seafront fortress built by Sultan Qaitbay (ruled Egypt 1468-1496) is now a museum where you can tour the defensive structure, and find panoramic views of the city. Alexandria is a highly recommended destination, one of my favorite places to visit in Egypt!
